Gustav 'Gus' T. Valo, 88

Brunswick - Gustav 'Gus' T. Valo, 88, died Saturday, January 7, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital Troy after a long illness.

Born in Little Falls, NY, he was son of the late Gustav T. and Zuzanna Hluchy Valo and husband for 54 years of Christine Loftus Valo. He was raised in Little Falls and resided in Queensbury before moving to Brunswick in 1975 and earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Syracuse University.

Gus was a District Engineer for NY Telephone Company for 35 years, retiring in 1985.

Gus enjoyed spending time with his family, camping at Lake George, skiing at Gore, relaxing by the pool with friends and family. He loved playing cards with his friend Leo, playing spoons on the washboard for entertainment and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of the Little Falls VFW, Brunswick Elks and a veteran of WWII in the Marines, one of 6 hand-picked as a Night Fighter at the Battle of Saipan and Solomon Islands.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Ronald J. Valo, Watervliet and David A. Valo, Troy; a daughter, Deborah S. (Peter) Valo-Meskoskey, Troy; a brother, Milan Valo; a sister, Elizabeth DeBroske; two grandchildren, Sierra L. Meskoskey and Adrienne Valo-Clark, a great grandchild, Jordan T. Valo and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Tuesday from 4-7 PM.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10AM at Faith Lutheran Church 50 Leversee Road Speigletown, with Rev. Stephen Cordes, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylerville.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Gustav T. Valo to the American Heart Association 440 New Karner Road Albany, NY 12205.
