Grace Greenwood

October 22, 2010

Grace Ruth Greenwood, 90

Troy - Mrs. Grace Ruth Greenwood, 90, died Thursday after a full and productive life. Happily married for 66 years, she raised 3 children and had 6 grandchildren.

Born in Norwich, England, Grace immigrated to Canada in 1954 with her husband Allan and their children Janet Jones and Stephen Greenwood. Shortly thereafter Allan went to work for GE and they settled in suburban Philadelphia where their 2nd daughter, Hilary Miller, was born. They moved to the Capital District in 1971 when Allan joined the faculty of RPI.

Grace, having lost her own parents at a very early age, dedicated her life to family. In the early years of their marriage that dedication meant raising 3 children. Later she found great joy in her grandchildren Darryl, Dayle, Aimee, Scott, Brad and Erin.

For pleasure, Grace and Allan built a log cabin in Vermont with the help of family, RPI faculty and eager graduate students. They also entertained frequently in their apartment in Tortola. Grace was an avid volunteer at SPAC, the Clifton Park Library, and worked with the RPI Red Cross Bloodmobile. In recent years, while taking care of Allan, she was active in the Beechwood community.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Grace may make a contribution to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, 108 Avenue of the Pines, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Celebration for Grace on Saturday December 4, 2010 from 10-11:30 am at the Chapel at the Eddy Memorial, 2256 Burdett Ave., Troy.
