Gerard E. 'Jerry' Mahoney, 67

Wynantskill - Gerard E. 'Jerry' Mahoney, 67, of Main Avenue passed away Monday, November 17, 2008 after a long hard fought battle with cancer.

Jerry was the dearly beloved husband of Judith 'Judy' (Albertson) Mahoney of 28 years, devoted and loving father of Judith (Keith) Pochobradsky of Nassau and adored grandfather 'Pop ' to Morgan and Taylor Pochobradsky.

He was son of the late William B. Mahoney and Mary (Long) Mahoney, was raised in South Troy and lived his adult life in Wynantskill. He attended St. Mary's School and was a graduate of and played varsity basketball for LaSalle Institute in South Troy.

After graduation, he joined the Navy and served from 1963-1965 on the USS Saratoga. After serving his country, Jerry went to work for the John A. Manning Paper Company in Green Island New York where he and Judy met. He retired from Manning Paper Company after 41 years, in 2004.

He was a member of the Wynantskill American Legion, a past member of Kiwanis Club of Wynantskill, and the Troy Lodge of Elks. Jerry's favorite place was Sacandaga Lake, where he and Judy camped for 27 years. He loved sitting at his campfire with his cherished friends, Steve, Gary and Earl.

Jerry loved this Country, his Irish heritage, and above all his twin granddaughters who were the light in his life from the day they were born. Jerry was loved by so many people, he truly will be missed.

Survivors in addition to his wife, daughter and granddaughters include a sister, Mary (Dominick) Testo and two brothers Thomas Mahoney and William (Cathie) Mahoney all of Wynantskill and 2 nieces; 4 nephews; several grand nephews and several cousins.

Funeral service will be held Friday at 10AM from the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 10:30AM from Sacred Heart Church in Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4-8PM.

Interment will be in Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
