Gerald J. O'Brien

Troy - Gerald J. O’Brien 81 of Troy, entered eternal rest on May 9, 2016 in his home with his loving family by his side. Son of Joseph and Margaret Hickey O’Brien and dear husband of 58 years to Barbara Kelly O’Brien.

Jerry graduated from CCHS, Class of 51 and entered the Navy serving as a Seabee during the Korean War. Jerry started his work career with Niagara Mohawk as a meter reader and retired after 42 years as a supervisor in the gas dept. He was a faithful communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Troy serving in many ministries. Jerry was a Volunteer with Community Hospice for over 20 years, and was also a long time Eucharistic Minister at St.Mary’s Hospital. His favorite pastimes were to read, to kayak and golf with family and friends, and to travel with Barb to many States and Countries They enjoyed winters in Florida. He loved the sea, and Gloucester was always a special place for him and the family.

His most wonderful Grace received during his many months with ALS was to remain a man of Faith in God. He was a good and caring husband, father and Papa. He thought himself a lucky man to have such wonderful children which include, Susan (Richard) Wyld, Kathleen O’Brien, Sharon Vest, Maureen (Stephen) Pace and Sally O’Brien his favorite Daughter-in- Law. His Grandchildren, Casey and Aileen O’Brien and Kelly and Michael Vest. He was pre-deceased by his son, Troy Police Sgt. James O’Brien.

The family sends thanks to Jerry’s Hospice nurse, Elizabeth, Dr. Roberta Miller, The VA in Albany, the Eddy therapists and especially, his aides, Darcy, Laura and Wendy, the Priests of Sacred Heart Church and to Jerry’s many friends for their kindness given to him and family.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 4-7 PM. 

Funeral service will be held Friday at 10 AM at the funeral home and at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Interment will be in  St. Mary's Cemetery Troy.
