George Josef Wiesnet, 70

Wynantskill - George Josef Wiesnet, 70, died Thursday, February 26, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital Troy after a brief illness.

Born in Amberg Bavaria, Germany, he was son of the late Georg Josef Wiesnet and Elsa Schneider Wiesnet and husband for the past 48 years of Paula Beierschoder Wiesnet. He was born in Germany and lived there for 17 years until coming to the United States on October 24, 1958 and has resided in Wynantskill for the past 51 years. He was a graduate of Hudson Valley Community College studying Construction Engineering.

Mr. Wiesnet spent 4 years completing an apprenticeship in Germany as a master carpenter, tradesman/shriner. He was a union carpenter and superintendent for Casabonne Brothers, Inc. for many years, retiring in 1998. He was a construction consultant with First Columbia in Troy for the past 10 years.

He was a member of Local 370 Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, the Brunswick Lodge of Elks #2556, the American Legion of Wynantskill, a life member , member of the Board of Directors and one of the Directors of the Youth Group of the Troy Germania Hall Association, President of the German-American Rod and Gun Club in Tomhannock, a President and one of the Founders of Schuhplattler Verin Alpenklang, a Cub Scout Den Leader in Wynantskill and a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill. He was an Army Corp of Engineers veteran serving in Virginia and Greenland and a member of the National Guard. George was a phenomenal grandfather, enjoying hunting, fishing, ice fishing andproviding many lawnmower rides to the grandchildren. He also loved to dance, bird watch, work in his garden and had real pride in his lawn.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his three children, Carla Marie Wiesnet Leubner of Wynantskill, Mark Josef Wiesnet of Troy and Craig Martin (Christina) Wiesnet of Brunswick; a sister, Martha (Hermann) Fuchs and their children Birgit and Jurgen of Neaubau Roding Germany; his six grandchildren, Joseph John Lynch IV, Wesley Leubner, Darrick Michael Leubner, Breanna Elizabeth Wiesnet, Carly Marie Leubner and Georg Craig Wiesnet and his mother-in-law, Mary M. Beierschoder of Troy.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 9AM at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 9:30 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Church Wynantskill where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Salvatore Rodino, Pastor.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4-8 PM.

Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery Troy.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of George Josef Wiesnet to St. Jude the Apostle Church Brookside Avenue Wynantskill, NY 12198 or the Germania Hall Association Memorial Fund 309 Third Avenue Troy, NY 12182 or the German-American Rod and Gun Club or any veterans charity.
