George J. Welch, 89

North Greenbush - George J. Welch, 89, died suddenly Monday, April 8, 2013, at Samaritan Hospital.

Born in Saratoga, he was son of the late George Joseph and Mildred Welch and husband of the late Dorothy T. Kennedy Welch. He was raised in Troy and resided in North Greenbush since1954 and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School class of 1942.

Mr. Welch was a senior sales representative for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals for 28 years and prior to that worked for Merck Pharmaceuticals, in drug sales for 38 years retiring in 1989.

He was a family man, loved spending time following his grandchildren's sporting events. He was a member of the Watervliet Lodge of Elks, an ambassador for Pfizer for their National Symposiums and a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Church and the Knights of St. Jude. George was an active sports enthusiast and an avid fan of RPI Hockey. He also loved reading and traveling with his beloved wife, Dottie. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in Normandy and Northern France as part of the 35th Infantry Division.

Survivors include two sons Robert G. (Maureen) Welch, North Greenbush and Scott D. (Tricia) Welch, East Amhurst, NY; a son-in-law, Dennis Donahue, Tulsa, OK; his beloved grandchildren, Katie, Brian and Shawn Donahue, Erin (Justin) Abbott, Eileen Welch, Kelsey, Haley, Madison and Abigail Welch and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia Donahue who died in January of this year and his siblings, Frank, Carl, Donald and Shirley.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Friday from 4-7.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 9:30 AM at the funeral home and at 10 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Church Wynantskill where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum Troy.

In recognition of Georges' military service, contributions may be made in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Project 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300 Jacksonville, FL 32256.
