George L. Smith

Eagle Mills George L. Smith, of Dater Hill Road, died suddenly Saturday at Lime Rock Park Raceway in Connecticut.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Ray L. and Natalie Wade Smith and beloved husband of Karen Englert Smith for 27 years. He was a life long resident of Eagle Mills and was educated at Troy High School and attended Clarkson University.

Mr. Smith operated Troy Belting and Supply Company in Watervliet since 1968, a business that his father, Ray, purchased in the early 1940's. His family business is now in its third generation of operation. He also was the proud owner of Kings Grant Farm in Eagle Mills which he has operated since 1954 and just recently stocked with Braunvieh cattle.

A member for over 25 years of the Sports Car Club of America, he also raced motorcycles and boats over the years. He was also a member of the New York Beef Cattlemen's Association and numerous business related associations.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his children George L. Smith II (Kathleen) of San Diego, CA, Stacia L. Hayes (Jack) of Troy, Jason Wade Smith (Laura) of Eagle Mills, Kim O'Donnell (Edward) of Eagle Mills, Kelly Clark (Ken) of Greenfield Center and Mark Gliosco (Teresa) of Eagle Mills and a cousin Kathleen Sliter (David) of Barbeau, MI.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00AM from Christian Church- Disciples of Christ Route 2 and Maple Avenue in Eagle Mills with Rev. Michael White, Pastor, officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenues in Troy on Wednesday from 6-9pm. Interment Eagle Mills Cemetery.
