George H. Rafferty, 85

Troy - George H. Rafferty, 85, of Madison Avenue in Troy, passed away on November 29th at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy. Born on May 30th, 1925, Rafferty was raised in Lansingburgh.

He became a football, basketball, and baseball star at both Lansingburgh High School and LaSalle Institute, and went on to become a star quarterback and halfback for the Troy Bulldogs, a semi-pro football team in the late 1940's. His passion for sports extended throughout his life. A die hard New York Yankees, New York Giants, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish football fan, Rafferty also devoted countless hours of his time coaching and volunteering at various youth sports organizations.

In addition he attended numerous sporting events and theatrical performances of his children and grandchildren as their number one fan. A patriotic man, he served as a gunner in the Navy during World War 2 and upon his return worked for Allegany Ludlum Steel and Winthrop Sterling Drug until his retirement.

First and foremost however, Rafferty was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a loving, caring, and selfless man who always put his family's needs and happiness before his own. Father of the late Colleen Rafferty, he is survived by wife Doris Horton Rafferty, son George G. Rafferty and his wife Kim Rafferty, grandson Glenn Babineau and wife Katerina Babineau, grandson Casey Rafferty, granddaughter Shannon Rafferty, his beloved chocolate labrador Chip, and his extended family; Jaclyn, Dominick and Destiny Wierzbicki, Travis Scott, and Kiersten Smith.

Funeral service will be held Friday, December 03, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church Troy with Rev. John Yanas Rev. James J. Vaughan, Pastor of , officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, December 02, 2010 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM.

Interment will be in Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylerville in the spring.
