George Leo LaPlante Jr.

Brunswick - George Leo LaPlante. Jr, 69, of Church Street died Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at his residence after a 3 years courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Troy, he was son of Mary Hogan LaPlante of Albany and the late George L. LaPlante, Sr. and husband for 21 ½ years of Patricia Duffy LaPlante. He had resided in the Troy, Wynantskill and Brunswick areas all his life and was a educated in Troy schools. 

George was owner and operator of G. L. LaPlante, Inc. In Brunswick, Grinder Pump Service for over 20 years.

George had a passion for woodworking and old cars, he enjoyed watching NASCAR and was a member of the American Legion Post #1489 in Wynantskill. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Willsboro and vacationing in Las Vegas, Rhode Island and Florida. George's grandchildren, Joe and Sam, were the light of his eye, just seeing their faces walking through the door would brighten his day.  He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and proud of serving his country. 

Survivors in addition to his wife and mother include a daughter, Kimberly (David) Demarest, Wynantskill; two grandsons, Joe and Sam Demarest, Wynantskill; five sisters, Marilyn Cioffi, Denville, NJ, Martina VonFricken, Troy, Rita (Butch) Thompson, Troy, Mary Susan (Brian) Dinon, Clifton Park and Robin (Michael) O'Connell, Albany; his brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Cynthia (Peter) Lynch, Floyd M. (Debbie) Duffy, Glenn (Lauren) Duffy, Julie Anderson, Paula (Jim) Kearney, Mary (Steve) Menneto, and Rose (Larry) Spraker; his former wife, Judy LaPlante; his daughter in law, Tammy Geibel; his (cousin) Patricia Mendel and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Matthew LaPlante.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Sunday, March 15, 2015 from 4-7 PM. 

Funeral service will be held Monday at 9:30 AM at St. Michael's Church Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery Wynantskill.
