Genevieve 'Veva' Begley Blood, 90

Troy - Genevieve 'Veva' Begley Blood, 90, of Fifteenth Street died Saturday, July 20, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Bennington, VT, she was daughter of the late John Howard Begley and Lillian Ethel Tripp Begley and wife of the late Frederick J. Blood. She was raised in Pittsfield, MA and resided many years on the East Side of Troy and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and Albany Business College.

Mrs. Blood was a cashier for Grand Union in Troy for 30 years, retiring in 1989, worked a short time at Triple S Blue Stamps and part time at NYS Workers Compensation in Menands.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star since 1967 and the District Deputy Grand Marshall in 1993. She was active in the Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church and her husband and she taught Sunday school and started the Youth Fellowship at the church in the 1960's. She was a trustee and a member of the church choir and the Ad Board. Veva was a lifelong member of the PTA of the Troy School District, a member of the Hilltop Home Bureau since its inception, 4H at Vanderheyden and volunteered for the blood drives at the American Red Cross. She enjoyed traveling especially to ocean spots, enjoyed singing, entertaining guests had friends from all walks of life and enjoyed wintering at Barefoot Bay, Florida.

Survivors include a son, Jeffrey K. Blood, Troy; a daughter, Shelley Blood (Jim) Hoover, Santa Monica, CA; her grandchildren, Casey (Tara), Jesse (Alanna), Jimmy and Aram Toomajian, Nicole Blood and Troy Hoover; four great grandchildren and several cousins and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Scott F. Blood and John H. Blood; her twin sister, Myrtle B. Kirkland and other sister, Shirley Liberty.

Relatives and friends may call at the Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church 520 Pawling Avenue Troy on Tuesday from 10-11 AM with a funeral service to follow at 11AM with Rev. Karyl Hopp, officiating.

Interment will be in Memory Gardens Colonie.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Genevieve B. Blood to the Order of the Eastern Star - Grand Chapter 71 West 23rd Street New York, NY 10010 or the Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church 520 Pawling Avenue Troy, NY 12180.
