Welcome to the memorial page for

Gary Therrien

December 28, 2009

Gary Therrien, 62

Gary Therrien, 62, of Waterford, died suddenly on December 28 while sharing a holiday at Turning Stone Casino with his conmpanion Margaret Beck.

Born in Troy, he was the son of the late William and Jeanne (Katsky) Therrien.

Gary graduated from Catholic Central High School, served in the US Air Force, and later graduated from the University of AZ. Gary was an accomplished businessman which allowed him to travel and live in seven different states and the country of Mexico although, he preferred his semi-retired life. He was most recently employed by the North Colonie School District as a bus driver. He most enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, riding his Harley, golfing, fishing and playing poker. As a successful poker player, he played alongside many of the greats including Phil Helmuth and Tom McAvoy (and beat both of them, by the way).

Gary left behind a large and extended family. He was the devoted father of Tracy (Bob) Connolly of Troy and Christopher Therrien of Austin, TX. He is also survived by two brothers, Glenn Therrien of Ballson Spa and Greg Therrien of Maine; and two grandchildren, Tyler and Sarah Connolly of Troy. He was the loving and faithful partner to Margaret Beck for the last 23 years, and he loved her family as his own. He will missed by all including Margaret's children Suzanne (Jason Wilhelm) Beck and Claudine (Dave Boisclair) Beck, and her grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Nikki, Kyra, Alyssa and David. Gary was predeceased by Margaret's son, Eric. Gary loved all of his children and grandchildren and was often called upon for his straight-forward advice.

Though difficult, Gary's family has honored his wishes to have no services. Family and friends will be gathering at the home of his daughter at 4pm Saturday to celebrate his life and share memories. All are welcome. Those who like to do something in Gary's memory should make a contribution to the children's charity of their choice.
