Troy - Frederick Joseph ‘Skitch’ Carello, 88, of Hudson Drive died suddenly Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Samaritan Hospital.
Born in Troy , he was son of the late Sebastian Carello and Giovanna Staglino Carello and husband of the late Hilda Hull Carello. He had resided in Troy all his life and was educated in Troy Schools.
Mr. Carello was a milkman for Normanskill Diary and later retired from Crowley Foods in 1986. After retiring, he worked for United Staffing for 20 years.
He was a member of the Emerald Athletic Club and the Troy Lodge of Elks. He was a coach for the Armory Little League and a one of the founding members of the Connie Mack Baseball League. He enjoyed bowling, camping, horseshoes, most every sport, but most of all loved spending time with his family. He and his wife, Hilda were present at every game, dance recital, concert and graduation of their children and grandchildren. He instilled in all of us the meaning of respect, hard work and laughter and especially the importance of being a NY Yankee fan. When not with family, Fred enjoyed visiting with his friends at the Emerald Athletic Club and in later years made new friends at Manory’s and Famous Lunch in downtown Troy. Skitch and his brothers proudly served together during World War II in the Navy.
Survivors include a son, Gerald W. (Patricia) Reynolds, Troy; two daughters, Sharon Reynolds, Saratoga and Jennifer (Robert) Carello Elliott, Troy; two sisters, Theresa Agars and Grace Clemente, both of Troy; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sue Ann Reynolds LaMere; five brothers, Russell, Nicholas, Anthony, Joseph and Salvatore Carello.
The family wishes to thank the staff of 1 Greenbush at Evergreen Commons for their gentle care of Skitch.
