Frederick A. Seelig, 85

Brunswick- Frederick A. Seelig, 85,of Sugar Hill Apartments, died Friday, August 25, 2006 at his residence after a brief illness.

Born in Newark, NJ, he was the son of the late Emil Seelig and Harriet (Baumbach) Seelig and husband for 62 years of Frances Trebour Seelig.

He had resided in 27 years in Utica and 22 years in New Jersey and was educated at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.

Mr. Seelig was an engineer for Bendix (now TRW) for 27 years, retiring many years ago.

In 1939 he enlisted in the Marines, was assigned to Pearl Harbor in 1940, stationed in Guadal Canal, South Pacific and in New Zealand where he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, attended officers training school in Quantico and War College in Newport, RI. He joined the reserves and was assigned to Camp Pendleton, and was active for 12 years retiring as a Major. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, Knights of Columbus and the Anchor Club, active in the 3rd and 4th Defense Battalion reunions and was a very active life member of the First Aid Squad. He authored a book, One Marine Mustang's Memoirs.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Fredricka Gordon (Jack) of Center Brunswick and Louise Ann Faria (Rev. Manuel) of Beverly, MA.; a son, Karl F. Seelig (Anne) of Jamestown, RI; a sister, June Jesch of Wayne, NJ; eight grandchildren, Matthew (Lori) and Kenneth Christian, Chad, Emily, Nathan and Johanna Seelig and Mary Catherine and Susan Elizabeth Faria. He was predeceased by two sisters, Harriet Foley and Winifred Seelig.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:30am at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 11am at St. Francis de Sales Church Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4-7pm.

Interment Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.
