Evelyn Wheeler Spendiff, 84

Troy Evelyn Wheeler Spendiff, 84, formerly of Lansingburgh, died Thursday at Hallmark Nursing Centre Troy.

Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late Henry and Bertha Marsden Wheeler and wife for 61 years of the late Albert Francis Spendiff who died in June. She graduated from Lansingburgh High School in 1935, Russell Sage College, receiving her Bachelors in 1939 and earned her Masters from the State University of New York at Albany.

Mrs. Spendiff was business teacher at Avon High School in Avon, NY from 1939-40, a secretary to Professor Stanley Wiltse from 1940-43 at RPI, a substitute teacher at Lansingburgh High School from 43-54 and a secretary-bookkeeper from 54-56. She was an Executive Secretary of the Alumnae Association at Russell Sage College 56-59 and school teacher and head of the business department of Tamarac High School until her retirement in 1979.

Memberships include the Delta Pi Epsilon honorary graduate society, Delta Kappa Gamma honor society, life member of the NYS Teachers Association, Tuesday Morning Club, Thursday Morning Club, a former member of Grace Methodist Church and its Sunday School Superintendent for many years. She was currently a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Latham and was a member of its Women's Club, a lay speaker and a member of Bible Study.

Survivors include two sons James A. Spendiff and wife Carol Ann of Lewiston, PA and Peter A. Spendiff of Troy; a daughter Margery E. Pascale and husband Ralph of Latham; six grandchildren Scott A. Spendiff and wife Deanna of Cohoes, Wendy L. Spendiff of Troy, Lara M. Spendiff of Astoria, NY, Vincent J., Jesse M. and Danielle M. Pascale all of Latham and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00AM from Calvary United Methodist Church , Belle Ave. & Ridge Place in Latham.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. corner of Pawling Avenue at Maple Avenue Troy on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm.

Interment Memory's Garden in Colonie.

Contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Spendiff to the Calvary United Methodist Church Corners of Belle Ave. & Ridge Pl. Latham, NY 12110.
