Evelyn Wilkins Deecher, 87

Troy - Evelyn Wilkins Deecher, 87, formerly of Atlantic Avenue, Wynantskill died Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center.

Born in Eastville, VA, she was daughter of the late Charles Frederick Wilkins, Jr. and Dorothy Nottingham Wilkins and wife of the late Paul J. Deecher

She was raised in Onancock, VA, graduated from Onancock High School and attended Madison College in Harrisonburg, VA.

Evelyn worked for the New York State Department of Labor and Commerce for 25 years, retiring in 1983 as a Head Account Clerk.

She was a long time volunteer for the Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary and North Greenbush Library, active in the Women's Guild of Church of the Ascension in Troy and later a member of St. Thomas Canterbury in Clifton Park

Survivors include her daughter, Virginia (Jack) Welch of Tampa, FL, her son, Paul John (Colleen) Deecher of Troy; a brother-in-law, Fred Floyd of Machipongo, VA; a niece, Jenny Floyd of Nassawaddox, VA; two nephews, John (Suzanne) Rogers of Onancock and Gee (Mary) Floyd of Machipongo, VA; and two great nephews, Jake and Jason Floyd. She was predeceased by her sisters Rebecca (John) Rogers and Virginia Floyd and a brother Charles F. Wilkins III.

Funeral service will be held at a later date in Onancock, VA.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc., 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy, on Sunday, August 2, 2009 from 2-5pm. The family wishes to thank the staff of both The Terrace and Frear Unit of Eddy Memorial and the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.

Interment will be in Onancock Cemetery in Onancock, VA. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Evelyn Deecher to the Elizabeth Malone Employee Assistance Fund of Eddy Memorial 2256 Burdett Avenue Troy, NY 12180.
