Eugene R. Church, 83

Wynantskill - Eugene R. Church, 83, of Hidley Road died Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at his residence surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.

Born in Petersburgh, he was son of the late Edward Church and Myra Hubbard Church and husband for 57 years of Margaret Haughney Church. He was born and resided in Petersburgh for 26 years until moving to Wynantskill where he has spent most of his life. He was educated in Petersburgh and Hoosick Falls Schools.

Gene was a self-employed contractor and builder for 45 years in the Capital District.

He was a past president of Kiwanis Club of Wynantskill and past member of the American Legion Post #1489 Wynantskill He was a Captain of the Petersburgh Fire Department, a member of the North Greenbush Planning Board, a founding member of the North Greenbush Library and a board member and a member of the Tri-City Banjo Band of the AOH. Gene enjoyed deep sea fishing, was a master craftsman, an avid reader and loved blue grass and gospel music. He was a World War II veteran of the US Navy serving as Signalman Third Class a LSM1157ship. He often said the war didn't last once he joined the service.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, Tracy D. (Joan) Church of Wynantskill; two daughters, Beckie S. Church of Wynantskill and Bonnie J. Schroll of Colonie; two sisters, Marion Roscow of OH and Connie (Edward) LaDouceur of MA; five grandchildren, Jason and Ryan Church, Amanda and Brian Church, and Nathan Schroll; a great grandchild, Jacob Church. He was predeceased by a son, Timothy S. Church and a sister, Carolyn Ford.

Funeral service will be held Friday at 7 PM at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy with Rev. C. Joseph Ingraham, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7 PM.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery Wynantskill.
