Ethel Sowaskie Buck

West Sand Lake Ethel M. Sowaskie Buck, 86, formerly of West Sand Lake, died Saturday at Albany County Nursing Home after a long illness.
Born in Schodack, she was daughter of the late Arthur and Ada Laterick Hankle and wife of K. Stanley Buck of West Sand Lake and the late Nicholas Sowaskie. She had resided most of her life in West Sand Lake.
Mrs. Buck was employed as a nurses aide at Samaritan Hospital in Troy for 20 years retiring 20 years ago.
She was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in West Sand Lake, the Home Bureau, Sand Lake Seniors and the PTA. She was a charter member of the Sand Lake Ambulance and the West Sand Lake Fire Company Auxiliary and was instrumental in getting senior housing started in West Sand Lake.
Survivors in addition to her husband include a daughter Linda Ormsby of West Sand Lake; two sons Nicholas A. Sowaskie of Albany and James A. Sowaskie USAF Ret. of Colorado Springs; two step sons and two step daughters; four grandchildren Martin B. Ormsby of Averill Park, Penelope Darling of Wynantskill, Shawn Sowaskie of Colorado Springs and Jamie VanHorn of Colorado Springs; three great-grandchild Stefan Sowaskie, Brian VanHorn and Brooklyn Darling and a niece and several nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter Penelope A. Sowaskie and four brothers Harold, Walter, Andrew and Frank Hankle.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:00am from Salem United Methodist Church Shaver Road West Sand Lake with Rev. Louis Guariniello, Pastor, officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 4392 Route 150 West Sand Lake Wednesday from 4-7PM. Interment Elmwood Cemetery in West Sand Lake.
