Esther M. Gary Gerwin, 81

Tomhannock - Esther M. Gary Gerwin, 81, of Tomhannock Road died Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late George D. Gary and Charlotte A. Chippendale Gary and wife of the late Joseph J. Gerwin Sr. She had resided in the Troy and Tomhannock areas all her life and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School class of 1945 and a 1950 graduate of Russell Sage College.

Mrs. Gerwin was head registered dietician at Mount McGregor and Samaritan Hospital many years ago and later was a homemaker.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed sports including watching baseball, the Olympics and horse racing .

Survivors include three sons, Joseph J. (Melody) Gerwin Jr. of Valley Falls, John P. (Demaris) Gerwin of Valley Falls and Christopher M. Gerwin of Manhattan Beach, CA; a sister, Sally G. Seymour of Rochester; a sister-in-law, Helene Gary of Saratoga Springs; her grandchildren, Sarah, Katherine, Edward, Emily, Margaret, Anna, Jacob, Brigitte and Juliet Gerwin and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, David Kline and George Gary and two sisters, Dorothea Philipps and Claire R. Conmee.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 9:15 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Church Schaghticoke where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. George Fleming.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-7 PM.

Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery Schaghticoke.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Esther M. Gerwin to the Holy Trinity Church 175 S. Main Street Schaghticoke, NY 12154.
