Esther Carrigan Flynn

Cropseyville - Esther Carrigan Flynn died Saturday April 6, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Walter Patrick and Margaret Mangan Carrigan whom Esther so loved. She married William E. Flynn in November 1952 and they shared a fulfilling marriage until Bill's death in 1997.

Esther attended Catholic Central High School in Troy, NY, where she excelled and met many life long friends, graduating in 1947. She was a communicant for many years at St. Patrick's Church in Troy where she attended grammar school.

She worked for six years as Executive Secretary to the Merchandise Manager of Montgomery Ward. Esther and Bill moved to Norfolk, VA during Bill's naval service from1948 to 1954 where Esther was employed at the Hampton Roads Port of Embarkation. Upon returning to the area, she was employed by the General Electric Company at their Silicone Products Division in Waterford for 5 years after which she stayed home to raise her two children. In 1969, Esther and family moved to Cropseyville, NY, and shortly after she returned to the workforce. Esther worked as the Administrative Assistant of The Late Honorable Neil W. Kelleher at the New York State Assembly in Albany. Esther greatly enjoyed working with Neil, his constituents and colleagues.

After retirement, she served as a Board of Trustee member at Hudson Valley Community College and she enjoyed traveling with her friends throughout Europe and Florida. Esther cherished her trips to visit family in County Mayo, Ireland, the birthplace of her parents. She loved gardening and watching the birds at her feeders. Esther made everyone she met feel very special with her warmth, enthusiasm and beautiful smile. Esther thoroughly enjoyed life and shared that joy with others.

She is survived by her son, William E. Flynn, Jr., and his wife Nancy; her daughter E. Colleen and her granddaughter, Mackenzie. Esther is also survived by several cousins and many dear friends whom she cherished and whose love brought her happiness and comfort.

Relatives and friends may call at St. Augustine's Church, 25 115th Street, Lansingburgh on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30AM with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30AM celebrated by Rev. James Spenard OSA, Pastor.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society 3 Oakland Avenue Menands, NY 12204.
