Elizabeth 'Betty' Carney Murray Rooney, 85

Troy - Elizabeth 'Betty' Carney Murray Rooney, 85, of Blooming Grove Drive died Wednesday, December 01, 2010, at Samaritan Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late James Carney and Elizabeth Burmeister Carney and wife of the late Francis J. Murray and Joseph F. Rooney, Sr.. She had resided in Troy all her life and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School.

Mrs. Rooney was employed by the City of Troy as Registar of Vital Statistics for 26 years, retiring in 1980 and prior to that worked many years ago at GE in Schenectady and Frear's Department Store.

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and its Women's Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna J. (Douglas) Williams, Wynantskill; several step children, Joseph F. (Sylvia) Rooney Jr., John T. (Mary Ellen) Rooney, Thomas D. (Phyllis) Rooney, Nancy (Patrick) Rooney Sullo and Marilyn Rooney; three grandchildren, Douglas J. (Jennifer) Williams, Darcy L. Williams and Derick F. Williams; two great grandchildren, Madison and Emma Kancyr; several step grand and great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Carney; two sisters, Margaret Rivers and Marie Battis and a stepson, George Rooney

Funeral service will be held Monday at 10 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy and 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Betty Rooney to Make - A - Wish Foundation 1 Mustang Drive Cohoes, NY 12047. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Troy.
