Elisabeth "Betty" Boltwood Bliss, 95

TROY- Elisabeth "Betty" Boltwood Bliss, 95, passed away on November 29, after a long illness of Alzheimer's. A lifelong resident of Troy, Elisabeth was born on June 22, 1917, to William Clarence and Lillian Cary Boltwood

A graduate of Troy High and Russell Sage College, Class of 1939, Elisabeth worked for Socony Vacuum Oil Company prior to her marriage to her beloved RPI grad Nelson "Red" Owen Bliss, Jr. in 1941. He preceded her in death by less than two months, on October 13, 2012.

Betty was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Ilium Literary Club, PTA and Troy Country Club. She was a leader in Camp Fire Girls and Boy Scouts and was on the Board of Elections for many years. She was also a regular substitute teacher at School 18.

Elisabeth was a caring and generous person who was always there for others, but her main focus in life was her family of which she was immensely proud.

Elisabeth is survived by her immediate family: a son William Nelson Bliss and former daughter-in-law Linda Doolittle Bliss; a daughter Dr. Carol Elisabeth Bliss and her husband Dr. Gerry Stahl; three grandchildren and their families: BJ (Liz) and their daughters Sage Elizabeth Bliss and Kenzie Dana-Elisabeth Bliss; Kelly (Ryan) and their daughter Claire Bliss Connolly; and Heather (Chris) and their daughter Ela Bliss Young. Elisabeth is also survived by two sisters-in-law Eleanor Ferguson of Huntersville, NC, and Barbara (Roland) Kollar of Venice, FL, and a brother-in-law Dr. Charles Bliss of Rangeley, ME. She is also survived by two step-grandsons and their families: Zake (Kimlou) and their daughter Nastasja Stahl and Rusty Stahl. A sister, Frances Boltwood Howe, predeceased her.
