Edward Kazanjian, 86

Niskayuna - Edward Kazanjian, 86, of Tamarack Lane, died peacefully Sunday, April 6, 2014 at his home after a brief illness.

Born and raised in Troy, he was the son of the late Kapriel Kazanjian and Mary (Vartigian) Kazanjian and husband for 52 years of Bertha Kassardjian Kazanjian.

He had resided in Niskayuna since 1968 and was a graduate of Troy High School class of 1945.

Mr. Kazanjian was owner and operator, with his brothers, of Pioneer Food Market on Congress Street in Troy for 45 years, retiring in 1991.

He was a member, Trustee and Godfather of St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church in Watervliet and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his children, Edward Kapriel and Nirva Kazanjian of Watertown, MA, Lisa Harootunian of Lincoln, RI and Nancy and Ara Balian of Winchester, MA; a sister-in-law, Rosine Djehizian Kazanjian; a brother-in-law, Manoog and Ani Kassardjian; five grandchildren, Raffi, Lauren, Ari, Isabella, and Alexa; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three brothers, Andrew, Arthur and Leo Kazanjian and brother-in-law Hagop Kassardjian.

Relatives and friends may call at the St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church, 100 Troy-Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY 12189 Friday from 4-8 PM.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church in Watervliet with Rev. Fr. Stepanos Doudoukjian, Pastor, officiating.

Interment Elmwood Hill Cemetery in Troy.

The family wishes to thank the many friends and family who visited Edward on a regular basis.
