Edna Mildred (di Domenica) Pierce

April 28, 1918 ~ May 24, 2015 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Troy - Edna Mildred Pierce, 97, of Burdett Avenue and formerly of West Sand Lake died Sunday, May 24, 2015, at Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center after a long illness.
 
Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was daughter of the late Dr. Angelo di Domenica and Mary Traver  di Domenica and beloved wife of the late Philip Storrs Pierce. She was born and resided in Philadelphia for 15 years, then attended high school in Sand Lake. She was a graduate of Averill Park High School, class of 1936, and Denison University, Granville, OH in 1940.  After the war Edna and Phil returned to Sand Lake and lived there for 70 years. She attended the College of St. Rose where she earned her Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education. 
 
Mrs. Pierce was a third grade teacher at the West Sand Lake Elementary School for 25 years, retiring in 1983.  
 
She was a member of the Church of the Covenant in Averill Park and the G.O.O.F.s, enjoyed making costumes for many plays at Averill Park High School and playing bridge with her friends.   
 
Survivors include her three daughters, Mary (Robert) LaFleur, North Greenbush, Virginia ‘Dee’  (C. Fredrick) Erickson, West Sand Lake and Kathryn Benson, Sand Lake; her grandchildren, Britton  (Amy) Erickson, West Sand Lake, Kate (Fred) Sfeir, Whitesboro, NY, Amanda (Brian) McCabe, Glen Ridge, NJ, Zachary Benson, Canton, NY and Ashley Benson, North Adams, MA; her great grandchildren, Isaac and Adam Erickson, Lauren and Andrew Sfeir, Fiona and Rowan McCabe, Avery Benson and Isabella Giraldo; a sister, Eleanor MacKecknie, Winter Park, FL and 7 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Sylvia Fordham.
 
Relatives and friends may call at the Church of the Covenant 3055 Route 43 Averill Park Monday, June 1, 2015 from 6-7 PM with a memorial service at 7 PM with Rev. Joseph Auslander, officiating.
 
Interment will be in Sand Lake Union Cemetery.
