Dorothy H. Wheeler Tuffy, 92

Schenectady - Dorothy H. Wheeler Tuffy, 92, formerly of Troy, died Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in Schenectady after a long illness.

Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Wheeler and Bella (Crowther) Wheeler and wife of the late James J. Tuffy.

She had resided in Troy most of her life and was a graduate of Troy High School, class of 1932 and Allen's School of Commerce in 1934.

Mrs. Tuffy was employed at the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and retired from the Division of the Budget in 1972 as an Executive Secretary.

She was a former member of Levings Methodist Church and now Church of the Good Shepherd in Green Island and sang in the choir of both churches. She also was a soprano soloist at the former Silliman Presbyterian Church in Cohoes for 25 years; an active member of United Methodist Women, Past President of the Saturday Club in Cohoes, a member of Troy Chromatics and Green Island Seniors. She was also a soloist for many service clubs and Masonic affairs. Dorothy liked to travel and work in the garden.

She is survived by her beloved nieces and caregivers, Marcia Moody and Ross, Lynn Holtermann and Cindy Torres and their children, Logan, Gage and Maya. Also survived by other nieces and nephews, Ethel Wagar, Diane Bott, Cheryl Smith, Scott and Donald Wagar. She was predeceased by two sisters, Martha L. Wheeler and Viola B. Bott and a brother, Jasper Wheeler.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Thursday from 5-7 PM.

Interment Elmwood Hill Cemetery in Troy.
