Dorothy Stillwell Phillips

Troy - Dorothy Stillwell Phillips died Monday at the Eddy Complex in Troy where she had lived for the past 13 years and was well loved by her many friends and staff.

She was the daughter of William and Ida Stillwell; the widow of the late David Bloomingdale Phillips; and the sister of Richard (Ruth) Stillwell of Rensselaer, NY, the late Robert Stillwell, and the late William Stillwell.

Born in Freehold New Jersey in 1910, Dorothy moved to a farm on Best Road with her family when she was 10 years old. She graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1926. She worked briefly in New York City before she returned to the Capital Region and married David Phillips. Together they operated the Phillips Farm, later Philcan Dairy Farm, in North Greenbush for most of their lifetimes. They were married 63 years. In addition she was a mother and a caretaker for each of her parents. Dorothy was an active member of the Bloomingrove Reformed Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Women's Guild. She was a member of the NY State Grange for 80 years, the local Shakespearean Society, and the local Garden Club. As a resident of Beechwood Apartments at the Eddy during her later years, she served on the Residents Advisory Board and volunteered at the Hole-in-the-Wall Gift Shop.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Barbara (Warren) Bower of DeFreestville, NY; Clark (Sue) Phillips of North Collins, NY; Forman (Zlata) Phillips of Ballston Spa, NY; Herbert (Theresa) Phillips of Sarasota, FL; and Sally (Bud) Halsey of Schenectady, NY; and 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy, NY on Friday January 22nd between 4-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Bryce Funeral Home Saturday January 23rd at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow at Bloomingrove Rural Cemetery, in DeFreestville.
