Dorothy I. Miller, 88

Troy - Dorothy I. Miller, 88, of River Street, Quayside Apartments, died Saturday, October 15, 2011, at her residence after a long illness.

Born in Fulton, NY, she was the daughter of the late Henry S. Brooks and Rachel T. Brooks and wife of the late Robert M. Miller. She resided in Syracuse, NY until 1971 when she moved to Albany, NY and later to Troy, NY.

Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and an avid supporter of the Arts. While living in Syracuse, she was active in the Syracuse Opera Company, Syracuse Symphony Orchestra and the Everson Museum of Art. After moving to Albany, she served on the board for the Albany Symphony Orchestra. She was well known as a fantastic cook and hostess for many parties throughout the years. Dorothy spent her summers on Lake Ontario where she cultivated colorful gardens. She was a communicant of St John's Episcopal Church in Troy.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorene Valenti of Delmar; a son, Steven Miller of Syracuse; her close friend with whom she spent the last 16 years of her life, Sheldon W. Jones; her grandchildren, Andrew and Alyssa Miller and James, Jonathan, and Peter Valenti. She was also predeceased by a sister, Harriet Casper.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2PM at the Gardner Earl Chapel Oakwood Cemetery, Oakwood Avenue Troy with Rev. Robert Haskell, Interim Rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, officiating.

Inurnment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
