Dorothy D. Bunney Budesheim, 71

AVERILL PARK - Dorothy D. Bunney Budesheim, 71, of Averill Park, passed away on July 2nd, at her home with her loving family at her side, following a long and valiant battle with cancer. Born in Whitehall, New York on March 3, 1936, she was the daughter of the late James and Marjorie (Knights) Bunney. Dorothy was a 1955 graduate of Averill Park High School. She was a bookkeeper/office manager for Hoosick Electric Co., retiring in 2001.

A communicant of St. Henry's Roman Catholic Church in Averill Park, Dorothy was an avid flower and vegetable gardener. She also enjoyed bird watching, crossword puzzles and an occasional girls-day-out at Foxwoods Casino or the Saratoga Racino. Later in life she enjoyed traveling including a trip to Ireland, her ancestral homeland.

Dorothy was completely and entirely devoted to her family and gave to them unconditionally. Her family was the center of her life and she, in turn, was the focal point of her family. She was an exceptional caregiver and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was the type of mother every child should have and the type of grandmother every child would want. Happiest in the presence of her family, particularly her grandchildren, Dorothy was always there for anyone in need.

She was an exceptional cook and took great joy in preparing marvelous meals for her large family who were sure they had their own five-star chef. She will forever be remembered for her cooking; particularly her summer picnics, wondrous holiday meals and family get-togethers throughout the year.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by an infant younger brother, James Richard Bunney. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Robert P. Budesheim and her adoring children, Linda (Jeffrey) Lang of Brunswick, Diane (Scott) Bentley of Poestenkill, Dorothy (Thomas) Ryan of Averill Park and Mary Budesheim of Averill Park. She is also survived by 14 beloved grandchildren: Andrew, Diana, Matthew, Maya and Aaron Lang; Samantha, Sarah, Scott, Daniel and Cassandra Bentley; Amanda, Patrick and Elaina Ryan; and Benjamin Glasser, as well as her wonderfully loving, compassionate sister and best friend, Norma (John) Novak of Sand Lake, her brother, John (Angeline) Bunney of Poestenkill and her friend, sister-in-law and traveling companion, Mildred Volweider of Rotterdam. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be held at St. Henry's Church in Averill Park on Thursday at 10:30AM with Rev. John Provost, Pastor, There will be no viewing hours. Interment will be in St. Henry's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Children's Cancer Wing of Albany Medical Center.
