West Sand Lake - Dora Wehnau, 80, of West Sand Lake died Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Van Rensselaer Manor after a brief illness.
Born, raised and resided in West Sand Lake all her life. She was daughter of the late Madison Wehnau and Myra Holdridge Wehnau. She was a graduate of Averill Park High School.
Dora was an accounts clerk for New York Telephone Company for many years.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in West Sand Lake. Also active with the Red Hat Society, Brunswick Seniors, Young at Heart Group, and NY Telephone Pioneers. Dora was an active bowler in Hi-Way Recreation Leisurettes, and various other bowling leagues on the local, state and national levels. In addition to bowling she enjoyed her golf leagues and traveling. Dora taught chair caning at the East Greenbush YMCA. She was a Red Cross Volunteer for many years.
Survivors include four brothers, M. Duane Wehnau, West Sand Lake, Walter F. Wehnau, Defreestville, Ralph E. Wehnau,(Doc), Moorestown, NJ, and Norman C. Wehnau, Moorestown, NJ; 9 nieces, 9 nephews, 16 grand nieces, 17 grand nephews and 10 great grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Paul L. Wehnau, and nephew, Peter Wehnau.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside service which will be held Saturday at 1:00 PM at the Sand Lake Union Cemetery, Route 66 at Cemetery Lane, Averill Park .
A celebration of Dora's life will be held at the West Sand Lake Fire Company on Route 43 in West Sand Lake immediately following the graveside service.
