Donald Joseph Kaiser

July 14, 1917 ~ March 28, 2016 (age 98) 98 Years Old

North Greenbush - Donald Joseph Kaiser, Troy Optician, 98, of Blooming Grove Drive died Monday, March 28, 2016, at Van Rensselaer Manor after a long illness.

Born in Buffalo, he was son of the late Frederick Kaiser and Helen Carey Kaiser and husband of the late Mary Walsh Kaiser. He had resided in the Troy area most of his life and was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy. A member of the Class of 1935, he was one of the oldest known living graduates of CBA at the time of his death. 

Mr. Kaiser was a self employed Guild Optician in Troy for 35 years, retiring in 1979.   He was a past member and officer of the Raymertown Fire Department, a member of the Lions Club of Troy and the Country Club of Troy.  He loved playing and watching tennis and golf.

Don was an Army Veteran of World War II serving in both the 774th Tank Destroyer Battalion, and the Medical Unit of Fort Jackson, SC.  He was a Sergeant at the time of his discharge in 1945.

Survivors include two daughters, Lynne Kaiser Seyler, Detroit, MI, and Gail A. Kaiser, Menands; three sons, Eric J. Kaiser, Petoskey, MI, Martin T. (Becky) Kaiser, Troy, and Jerry (Patti) Kaiser, Riverview, FL; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert F. Kaiser of Albany.

Relatives and friends may call, Saturday, June 25th, 2016 from 9-10AM at the University Parish of Christ Sun of Justice, 2125 Burdett Ave, Troy, NY with a celebration of Don’s life and Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM, celebrated by Rev. Edward  Kacerguis, Pastor.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont, NY. 

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Donald Joseph Kaiser to the Patriot Guard Riders of New York, HELP ON THE HOMEFRONT Project (P.O. Box 107 Williamson, NY 14589), or to the Troy Lion’s Club (PO Box 192 Troy, NY 12181-0192).
