David Alexander Edwards

Troy David Alexander Edwards died April 11,2002 at his home in Troy, New York. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Virginia Hampton Bean Edwards and John Bowen Edwards. He spent the first eight years of his life in Aurora, New York where his father was Professor of Classics at Wells College. In his ninth year, he traveled in Europe with his family during his father's sabbatical leave.

He graduated from the McDonogh School in Pikesville, Maryland and received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in chemical engineering from John Hopkins University. In 1943, he married Miss Edna Lawson Jurgens of Baltimore. During World War II, he worked on a special government project on synthetic rubber at Johns Hopkins. For this research, he was inducted into Sigma Xi, the honorary engineering society.

After the war, he worked for the Plastics Division of the Glenn L. Martin Company in Baltimore. When this was sold to the U.S. Rubber Company in 1950, he and his family moved to Woodbury, Connecticut. In 1957, he became a salesman and technical representative for the Naugatuck Chemical Division of the company and moved to Shaker Heights, Ohio. His territory included all of Ohio, western New York, western Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. He provided technical assistance and sold poly vinyl chloride and ABS resins to such customers as General Motors, General Electric, Western Electric, Honda, and others. A friendly and outgoing person, he made many friends during his long career as a salesman.

After retiring, Mr. Edwards and his wife moved to Ashland, Ohio where he became active in community affairs. He served as treasurer and program chairman of the local AARP chapter. An avid bridge player, he played bridge weekly with a group of friends. He was also a philatelist and a numismatist. He was a direct descendant of the founders of Little Falls, New York, William Alexander and John Porteus.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years and three children: Mrs. Annette E. Reiserer (the late Herbert) of Heidelberg, Germany; Mrs. Margaret E. Hunt (Stephen) of Denver, Colorado; and Mr. Andrew J. Edwards (Cherrie) of Troy; five grandchildren: Mrs. Kathryn Hunt and Jacqueline Hunt of Denver; Elisabeth J. Edwards, Giles David Edwards, and Bronwyn K. Edwards of Troy, and a great grandson, Michael J. Dudgeon of Denver. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Richard Inglis of Westwood, Massachusetts, two brothers, John M. Edwards of Monkton, Maryland, and William Bennett Edwards of Afton, Virginia. Three nieces and four nephews also survive.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 11:00am from the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenues in Troy with Rev. Harold Carrier, Chaplain of Samaritan Hospital, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 4-7pm
