Cornelia A. 'Corny' Andersen Garrett, 83

Saratoga Springs - Cornelia A. 'Corny' Andersen Garrett, 83,of Saratoga Springs, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY.

Born in Ellensburg, WA, she was the daughter of the late Soren Andersen and the late Grace (King) Andersen. and wife of Warren D. Garrett.

She was raised in Ellensburg, Washington and resided in Wynantskill since 1948 before moving to Saratoga Springs in 1998 and was educated at Central Washington State University. She earned her Master's from the College of St. Rose in Albany.

Corny was employed as a seventh and eighth grade school teacher at Gardner Dickinson School in Wynantskill for many years and formerly taught at a school in Battleground, Washington.

While residing in Troy, she was very active in St. Paul's Church, including serving as a communicant and a member of the Altar Guild. Corny was also an active member of the North Greenbush Public Library for many years.

She is survived by a son, Chief Thomas O. (Gail) Garrett of North Greenbush; two daughters, Susan G. Harnden of Saratoga Springs, loving son-in-law Philip D. Harnden; daughter, Molly A. Garrett of Bloomfield, CT; and two granddaughters, Molly E. Harnden of Raleigh, NC and Amanda C. Harnden of West Hartford, CT and beloved pet Snuggles. She was predeceased by sisters and brothers, Rose Andersen, Soren (Tom) Andersen, Ogden and Carl Andersen and Gladys Newman.

Cornelia will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and her great sense of humor. Her passions included gardening, reading, history, education and above all, spending time with her children and grandchildren. She truly loved life and had a thirst for knowledge. Cornelia encouraged all who knew her to cherish life each and every day.

Special thanks to Ginny, Missy, Pat, Patty and Roz for their love and companionship with Cornelia. Our heartfelt thanks go the nurses and staff on C4 at Ellis Hospital, the Neurology PA's and the dedicated and kind people of Hospice. Your compassion and kindness during this difficult time will always be remembered.

Funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church State and Third Streets Troy with Rev. Michael Gorchov, Rector, officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Cornelia Garrett to The Community Hospice of Schenectady County 1411 Union Street Schenectady, NY 12308, Ellis Hospital or St. Paul's Episcopal Church at Third and State Streets Troy, NY 12180.
