Clarence Charles 'Chuck' Sliter Jr., 77

North Greenbush - Clarence Charles 'Chuck' Sliter Jr., 77, of Glenwood Road died Saturday, January 7, 2012, at his residence surrounded by his beloved sisters.

Born in Albany, he was son of the late Clarence C. Sliter and Adriana Hendricks Sliter. He had resided in North Greenbush all his life and was a graduate of Troy High School class of 1952 and took some welding classes at Hudson Valley Community College.

Chuck was a mechanic for the New York State Department of Transportation for 44 years, retiring in 1995 and was responsible for all the heavy construction equipment for Rensselaer County. In his early years, in 1951 he was a bridge operator for the Menands and Dunn Memorial Bridges and from 1952-61 he did custom farm work, for many area farms with his machinery.

He was a life member of the DeFreestville Fire Department, Trustee and Superintendent of Blooming Grove Rural Cemetery since 1994 and a member of the Blooming Grove Reformed Church. Chuck enjoyed tinkering with anything mechanical, loved tractors, repairing lawnmowers and plowing gardens for his neighbors.

He was the devoted and loving brother of Elizabeth J. Sliter, Beverly A. Sliter and Lorraine J. Sliter all of North Greenbush and survived by several cousins.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Monday from 4-7 PM.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11AM at the funeral home with Rev. James Hart Brumm, officiating.

Interment will be in Blooming Grove Cemetery DeFreestville.
