Brunswick - Clarence G. 'Sim' Simmons Jr. Esq., 79, of Brunswick Hills, prominent Troy attorney, died Sunday, December 16, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy after a long illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Clarence G. Simmons Sr. and Eunice Bingham Simmons and husband of Marilyn Doring Simmons and the late Barbara Trotter Simmons.

He had resided in the Troy area all his life and was a graduate of Public School 18, Troy High School class of 1946, Union College class of 1950 and Albany Law School class of 1953.

Mr. Simmons was admitted to the New York State Bar Association in 1953 and practiced law, originally with his father in the firm, Simmons and Simmons in Troy for over 50 years. General practitioners, they concentrated on real estate law and wills and estates.

Among other professional organizations, he was a member of both the Rensselaer County and New York State Bar Associations. He was also active in civic organizations including, a former president and 60 plus year member of the Troy Lions Club, a member of the Country Club of Troy and a volunteer in Northeast Sight Conservation.

Sim was an avid golfer, a life-long boater on Lake George and played tennis regularly prior to his illness. He was a devoted husband and father with a great sense of humor who enjoyed projects and working with his hands.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Clarence G.(Susan Begy) Simmons III of Santa Fe, NM and Dr. Steven T.(Cecile B.) Simmons of Altamont, his step children, Lynda Doring of Vernon, NY, Arthur Doring of Troy, Marybeth Casey of Poestenkill, Matthew Doring of SC and Kelly Izatt of CO; six grandchildren, Clarence G. Simmons IV of Santa Fe, NM, Victoria and Cameron Simmons of Santa Fe, NM and Katrina, Heather and Gwen Simmons of Altamont; two nieces, Lynn and Michelle Simon and a nephew, John Simon. He was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Simmons Simon.

Funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:00 AM at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy with Rev. James J. Vaughan, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-9PM.
