Chester Joseph Gizara, 88

Port Charlotte, FL Chester Joseph Gizara, 88, died March 3, 2004, at his residence in Port Charlotte, Florida.

Chester (Chet) was born May 13, 1915, in Amsterdam, N.Y., and lived in Troy, N.Y. (Wynantskill). Twenty-six years ago, he and his wife moved to Port Charlotte, Florida. Mr. Gizara worked as a plant control analyst for Ford Motor Company, receiving the Ford Motor Company Citizen of the Year Award in 1959. He attended Russell Sage College in Troy. He was a member of Apollo King Solomon Masonic Lodge and the Apollo Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, both in Troy, N.Y. His long-time community service with Uncle Sam's Council for the Boy Scouts of America was an important part of his life. Chester and his beloved wife of 65 years, Jennie (Jean) Gizara, were members of Church of the Ascension in Troy. For 53 summers, including 2003, Chester and his family enjoyed his summer residence on Dyken Pond.

Mr. Gizara's survivors include his wife, Jennie E. (age 92); sons William A. of Port Charlotte (formerly of Westford, Mass.) and Thomas A. Gizara (Jeanne) of Valatie; and daughter Carol A. Harlow (George D. Harlow, deceased) of North Greenbush, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Chester was the son of William Peter and Apolonia Potok Gizara (both deceased). He was also pre-deceased by two sisters - Jeanette King and Bridget Pierce.

Calling hours will be held at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc, 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy, New York on Tuesday, March 9 between 3 pm and 7pm. Mr. Gizara will be interred March 10 at Memory's Garden in Colonie following a private funeral service.
