Charles A. (Sanzo) Salerno Sr., 87

Troy - Charles A. (Sanzo) Salerno Sr., 87, formerly of Derrick Ave. Troy died Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Teresian House Albany after a brief illness.

Born and educated in Troy, he was son of the late John Salerno and Frances Sanzo Salerno and stepson of Anna (Sanzo) Salerno. He had resided in the Troy area all his life.

Mr. Salerno was a stone mason and superintendent for Ganem Contracting at Round Lake for 10 years retiring in 1990. Prior to that he operated his own masonry business, John Salerno and Son.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, shot down over Germany March 24th 1944. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy, played guitar in many local bands and was a member of the Bricklayers Union.

Survivors include four sons, John (Susan) Salerno, GA, Charles (Kathy) Salerno Jr., Wynantskill, Louis Salerno, Troy and James Salerno, Troy; two daughters, Anina (Fred) Aita, Guilderland and Colleen (Jeremy) Prescott, East Greenbush; two sisters, Marie Cleary, South Weymouth and Diana Anderson, Latham; 13 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Beatrice Denaker.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Wednesday from 4-7PM.

SERVICE CHANGE Funeral service will be held Thursday at 9:30am at Our Lady of Victory Church Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Randall Patterson, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Troy. Contributions may be made to the Teresian House 200 Washington Avenue Extension Albany, NY 12203.
