Charles J. 'Bud' Hammer Jr., 82

West Sand Lake-Charles J. 'Bud' Hammer Jr., 82,of Denver Drive, died Saturday, December 3, 2005 at his residence.

Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Charles J. Hammer Sr. and Florence (Selig) Hammer and husband of the late Constance L. Demers Hammer.

He had resided in his West Sand Lake home for the past 49 years and was a graduate of LaSalle Institute in Troy.

While serving in the US Navy during World War II, he was in charge of a Pacific Aircraft control tower. He later worked at the Watervliet Arsenal and was chief engineer of Muzak's Albany operation. He devoted much of his time to planning commercial sound systems with architects on new building construction.

Bud was a master-craftsman/woodworker and made Early-American, Colonial and Shaker furniture. He was also a professional photographer, opening his own studio. He was a rare and exceptional person, a loving friend, father and grandfather, touching the lives of all he knew.

He is survived by his son, Mark J. Hammer (Challen) of West Sand Lake; a daughter, Virginia A. Ludder (Peter) of West Sand Lake; his grandchildren, Nicholas C. and Luke E. Yetto, Nathaniel R. 'Rob' and Morgan S. Hammer and Lindsey M., Patricia N. and Kaitlyn B. Ludder, who were his greatest joy.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 7:00 PM at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 4392 Route 150 West Sand Lake with Rev. Susan Schultz, Community Hospice Chaplain, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-7 PM prior to the service.

Interment Oakwood Cemetery in Troy.
