Charles W. Fake, 80

Troy Charles W. Fake, 80, of Northern Drive, died Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital Troy, after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Kenneth and Mary Tracy Fake and husband for 57 years of Muriel J. VanDervoort Fake. He was raised and resided most of his life in Lansingburgh and was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School, Siena College class of 1950, Oneonta State Teachers College with a Masters in Elementary Education and did graduate work at RPI and Russell Sage College. He was certified in all subjects grades K-8 and English and social studies grades 9-12.

Mr. Fake was a Certified Principal, Supervisor and Superintendent. He was a teacher for 3 years at Cropseyville School grades 5-8, 10 years at Thomas A. Knickerbocker Jr. High School and 5 years at Lansingburgh High School. He later was Principal of Lansingburgh Elementary School for 13 years and Rensselaer Park Elementary School for 2 years. He was also Assistant Superintendent for Business Affairs at the Lansingburgh Central School District.

He was a life member of the New York State Parent Teachers Association and National Parent Teachers Association; a member of the City of Troy Human Rights Commission for the Lansingburgh School District and Director of the Lansingburgh School District Adult Education Program for 13 years. Active in sports, he was coach of the varsity tennis team at Lansingburgh High for 13 years and faculty advisor and helped organize the Varsity Club of Lansingburgh High. He volunteered with the American Red Cross for 57 years as an Instructor Trainer for water safety and instructor for first aid and cpr. For 2 terms he was President of the NYS Certified Swimming Officials Association and Past President of the Capital District Swimming Officials Association. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the New York State Certified Swimming Officials Association and his name appears on the NYS plaque in the Swimming Hall of Fame in Orlando, Florida. He was an official of football and basketball for several years.

Mr. Fake served during World War II in the US Marine Corp as a Staff Sergeant stationed in the Marshall Islands on the Atoll of Majuro, giving air cover to convoys and ships taking part in the Okinawa campaign. He was a member of the Veterans of Lansingburgh.

Mr. Fake was active in masonic circles, as Past Potentate, Imperial Representative and Outer Guard of Oriental Shrine Temple, four time Past Master of Phoenix Lodge #58 Troy 32nd degree mason and secretary for many years, treasurer of Delta Bodies, District Deputy Grand High Priest, RAM, member of the Albany Sovereign Consistory, Royal Order of Jesters and Sovereign Prince of the Delta Council Princes of Jerusalem.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Susan Perry of Waterford; a son, Scott F. Fake (Robin) of Brockport; a sister, Joan Bleakley of Sebastian, FL; a sister-in-law, Jean M. Bibb of Myrtle Beach, SC; two grandchildren Riley Jordan Fake and Aubrey Ann Fake both of Brockport and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, John Fake.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00am from the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenues in Troy.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 4-8pm. Interment Memory's Garden in Colonie.
