Troy - Carl F. Fryer, 85, of Meadow Drive died Sunday, June 07, 2009, at his residence after a brief illness.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late Rev. Earl C. Fryer and Helen Fleck Fryer and husband for 65 years of Hilda Goodermote Fryer. He had resided in the Troy area most of his life, attended Berlin Central Schools, graduated class of 1941 from Cohoes High School and earned his Bachelors in Aeronautical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1949. A World War II veteran of the Army Air Corp, he graduated as Second Lieutenant from Pilot Training School in Douglas, Arizona and was discharged as a First Lieutenant.
Mr. Fryer was a safety engineer for Employers Insurance of Wausau for 33 years retiring in 1983.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #1489 in Wynantskill and the American Society of Safety Engineers. He was an active member of the Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church in Troy in many capacities including, the choir, a Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent for many years, Chairman of the Administrative Board, Treasurer of Benevolence and a life member of the United Methodist Men.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, P. Todd (Elizabeth) Fryer of Clifton Park and Dale T. Fryer of Rochester; a daughter, Cathy F. (John) Frank of Rome; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church 520 Pawling Avenue Troy with Rev. Karyl Hopp, Pastor, officiating.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Wednesday, from 4-7 PM.
Interment will be in Memory's Garden Colonie.
