Brenda DeVore Harkness Burr, 57

Green Island - Brenda DeVore Harkness Burr, 57, of Paine Street died Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Samaritan Hospital after a long illness.

Born in New Haven, CT, she was daughter of the late William A. R. Harkness and Patricia A. DeVore Harkness. Beloved wife and best friend of Leonard C. Burr. She was raised in Johnsonville and resided in Green Island for the past 12 years and was a graduate of Kenwood Academy and attended Russell Sage College.

She enjoyed riding horses, caring for animals, boating with her family and will be remembered for her love of life and laughter. She was involved for several years in decorating the Governors Christmas tree in Albany and working on the Moreland Commission. She was also a dedicated member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors in addition to her husband include two daughters, Casey Colleen Burr and Kelly Anne Burr, both of Pittsfield, MA; a son, Nevin 'Ned' A. C. Burr, San Diego, CA; a brother, William J. Harkness, New Haven, CT; sisters, Elizabeth A. Harkness, Johnsonville, NY and Carry M. Harkness, CO, also several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her uncle, RPI hockey coach, Ned Harkness and inlaws Dr. Arthur A. and Leslie M. Burr.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Tuesday from 5-6PM with a funeral service to follow at 6PM with Rev. Karyl Hopp, officiating.
