Benjamin H. Lindeman, Jr.

Poestenkill - Benjamin Henry Lindeman, Jr., 82, of Poestenkill died Wednesday, July 19, 2017 after a long illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late Benjamin H. Lindeman and Catherine T. Keefe Lindeman and would have been married 50 years in August to Mary Gail Nocella Lindeman. He resided in Poestenkill most of his life.  He was a graduate of Averill Park High School and earned his Bachelors’ and Masters’ degree from Albany State Teachers College and his Doctorate in Education from the State University of New York at Albany. 

Ben was a mathematics teacher in Cincinnatus, NY from 1957-1963 and Averill Park High School from 1964-1980 and served as Averill Park High School Interim Principal for a year. He then became a Mathematics Associate in the Mathematics Bureau of the New York State Education Department in 1980. After retiring from the Education Department in 1995, he continued to work as a private mathematics education consultant until 2015. He especially enjoyed mentoring new teachers and presenting workshops to help teachers bring mathematics to life in the classroom.

He belonged to the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State Association, where he held several offices including President. He was an active member of the Association of State Supervisors of Mathematics and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. For many years he was the treasurer of the Credit Union for the Averill Park School district and subsequently served as a member of the Board of Directors of the School Systems Federal Credit Union.

He was a communicant of St. Henry's Church in Averill Park and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Ben loved music, Broadway shows, and travel. He was an avid Mets fan.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Julia (Howard) Read, California and Catherine (Sam) Smith, Averill Park; a granddaughter, Claudia Ann Read; a brother-in-law, Harold Ronson, FL, a sister-in-law, Frances Westlake, Latham, several nieces and several grand-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine Ronson and brother-in-law, William Westlake.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc.  276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Friday, July 21, 2017 from 4-7 PM. 

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:15 AM at the funeral home and at 11 AM at St. Henry's Church Old Route 66 Averill Park where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Thomas F. Holmes, Pastor.

Interment will be in St. Henry's Cemetery Averill Park.
