Troy - Ambrosio B. Villacorta, MD, 79, of Gurley Avenue, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at his residence after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in San Ildefonso, Bulacan, Philippines, he was the son of the late Crispino Villacorta and Simona (Bantigue) Villacorta and husband for 47 years of Catherine A. Coward Villacorta.

He had resided in San Ildefonso, Bulacan, Philippines and was a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Class of 1949, and its Medical School, Class of 1955. He completed his surgical internship at Our Lady of Victory Hospital, Lackawanna, New York in 1957. He was Chief Resident of Surgery at St. Clare's Hospital, Schenectady, NY 1958-1960. He then became a rotating resident at St Mary's Hospital in Troy, NY. He did post graduate work at St. Barnabas Hospital in Newark, NJ, 1965 and completed his residency in anesthesia at Berkshire Medical Center, Pittsfield, Mass. in 1968. Dr. Villacorta was an anesthesiologist at Cohoes Memorial Hospital, Cohoes, NY (1968-1985) and Leonard Hospital, Troy, NY (1985-1995).

He was a member of the American Medical Association, New York State Medical Society, and the American Society of Anesthesiology. He was licensed in Vermont as well as New York State.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Elizabeth Maria (Ryan) Fleming of Maryland and Suzanne Estelita (Craig) Wright of New Jersey; a granddaughter, Chelsea Coonrad of Maryland; several nieces and nephews, M. Luisa Foster, M. Jacobe Verayo, Jose M. Villacorta Jr., M. Ninfa Moeller (deceased), Gilberto Villacorta, Bernadette P. Villamil, Sally Ross, Hope Davis, and Emily Brown and several grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers and sister, Estelita, Benigno, Javier, Jose Sr. and Pacifico Sr. Villacorta.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:30am at St. Augustine's Church , 4th and 114th,Lansingburgh where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue Troy on Friday from 5-8pm.

Interment Oakwood Cemetery in Troy.

A most heartfelt thank you to all the care givers of The Community Hospice of Rensselaer County for all their genuine compassion and kindness to Ambrosio and his family.
