Alayne Hartman DiFranco, 82

Albany - Alayne Hartman DiFranco, 82, of the Atria on Northern Blvd died Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at her residence after a brief illness. She previously had resided at Hedges Lake for many years.

Born in Albany, she was daughter of the late Maurice G. Hartman and Harriet Hauf Hartman, and wife of the late Constantine DiFranco. She was raised in Albany and resided in Long Island and Miami before moving back to the Albany area in the mid 80's. She was a graduate of the former Saint Agnes School in Loudonville and a graduate of Florida Atlantic University in Miami.

Mrs. DiFranco was a recreation director for the City of North Miami for many years. Prior to that she had also served her community as an elementary school teacher.

She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Cambridge, NY, and earlier had trained to work as a Deacon in the Episcopal Church (South Florida). She was also known far and wide for her extensive butterfly collection, her generous nature, and her warm sense of humor. If you were kind enough to ask her about her grandkids, you'd better have been prepared to spend an hour or so hearing about them -- and looking at the latest family photos, which were always nearby.

Something most people don't know about her is that Alayne began ground school and flight training to become a private pilot some 15+ years ago! Always the adventurer with a love of travel, she had to let go of the piloting goal due to health issues. Most recently, during her tenure at the Atria over the last five years, she very much enjoyed her role there as "Ambassador At Large", helping other residents and newcomers become acclimated and comfortable in their new home.

Survivors include two sons, Sonny (Janet) DiFranco, Smithville, TX and Dennis M. (Robin) DiFranco, Huntsville, AL; a sister, Joline H. (Edward) Mondore, Loudonville, two grandchildren, Julie Alayne DiFranco, Huntsville, AL and David Andrew DiFranco, Huntsville, AL and a nephew, E. Andrew (Rebecca) Mondore, Loudonville.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 10 AM at St. Peter's Episcopal Church 107 State Street Albany with The Rev. Paul Hartt, Rector, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Alayne H. DiFranco to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 4 St. Luke's Place Cambridge, NY 12816 or the charity of one's choice.
