James 'Jay' P. Welch, 87

Brunswick James 'Jay' P. Welch, 87, of Brunswick Road, died Thursday at Van Rensselaer Manor North Greenbush after a long illness.

Born in Troy, he was son of the late James T. and Bridget Ryan Welch and husband for 50 years of the late Josephine A. Ferris Welch. He had resided in the Brunswick area all his life and was a graduate of LaSalle Institute in Troy, class of 1932 and did post graduate work at Troy High School, Hudson Valley Community College and Cornell University.

Mr. Welch was the proprietor of Welch's Farms in Brunswick for many years.

He was a member of the New York State Farm Bureau, a Director of the former Troy Milk Producers Association and a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church in Troy.

Survivors include a son James (Jamie) S. Welch and wife Cheryl of Fredericksburg, VA; a daughter Susie Zouky and husband Albert of Brunswick; a brother Joseph D. Welch of Baldwinsville; three sisters Eileen Johnson of Cohoes, Sr. Alice Marie Welch CSJ of Latham and May Carhart of MA; two grandchildren Ann Zouky of Philadelphia and Sarah Zouky of Brunswick and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 9:30am from the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenue Troy and at 10:00am from Hope United Methodist Church Route 2 in Eagle Mills where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 4-8pm. Entombment St. Mary's Mausoleum in Troy.
